Arrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh ….

Dear Craft Diary,

Today, I’m giving myself and my stash  — the side-eye — kinda like this one,

Why?

I have a very HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE stash as a newbie knitter.  But you trying to tell me, after all that money spent and with all that yarn, I only have but  8 skeins of bulky yarn and those puppies are from LionBrand?!!!!!  Are you kidding me?  At least they’re not RH, (although I have some of that too). 😳  It’s not that I have anything against LionBrand or RH, but patterns like the one I want to knit need real yarn … not plastic acrylic. 😳

All my early days of “ooooh, yarn pretty” glazed over, robotic purchase actions have now come to bite me in the proverbial *ss — well, you know … I shouldn’t have to spell it out.  My yarn and pattern tastes are evolving, now I’m not sure what to do with all that plastic acrylic.

Why, you ask, am I so  …. Homer Simon-esque?   You really want to know?

For your information, I’m like this because I want to make this cowl AND this year I’m stash-diving for all my projects.  That means that as much as I want to purchase bulky yarn … errr … that’ll be a negative!

Why do I have to make this particular cowl?  Why you so nosy Craft Diary?   Why you all up in my business?  If you must know, my online crafty pal Lauren made one and hers is so pretty, I want to make one  too.    Are you happy now Ms. Nosy?

You know what Craft Diary … you’re not really giving me any solutions, so I guess I’m going to have to stash drive again.  I can’t fail with the stash-diving a mere 19 days into 2012.  Plus this year’s a leap year so that’ll what … like a 5.19% “no yarn buying” success rate?  Errr …no!!!!!  I should at least get to 6%.  😛

So … I’m looking for a robust yarn, with great stitch definition.  I know now I’ll have to use worsted instead of bulky, in a colour I like. M’kay.   I know, I know … kinda sounds like I’m asking for wine, but I’m not, so MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!  Before I have to drink some wine!!!!

I didn’t think it would be this hard!!!!!!

If you’re good for anything, other than letting me vent, please for the love of all things knitterly, let me come up with a winner! Hmppphhh …

Yours pissedoffedly,

Dnali.

2 – 2012: Chunky Double Button Tab Hat

Long project title … easy project!!!  I started this after I started my herringbone neck-warmer.  Surprise, surprise I finished this in two hours which is an absolute thrill for me since I’m a slow knitter and I never knit a hat before.  😳

It did turn out to be mindless knitting after a while which I appreciated since I am nursing a cold.  This is my first hat but despite the ease of the pattern, there were some firsts:

  • circular knitting (aka knitting in a round)
  • this is my first hat — I can cross this off my knit resolutions list  for 2012
  • using place markers for the decrease repeats
  • experiencing stockinette stitch being created using the knit stitch only (only happens in circular knitting).

I used the same yarn that I used in this project (hence the name Probie’s Partner in my Ravelry project notebook  🙂   ) so I could wear them as a set.

Enough with the babbling; next up — the pictures!!!!!!

It’s beginning to a lot like a haaa-at!!!!!!  😛

It’s a perfect fit for me!!!!!! And Ziva likes it!!!

Yes, I named my sewing machine (Violet aka Vi-vi), my dress dummy (Malynda) , my work-light (Daisy) and my hat mannequin (Ziva).  😀

What?!!!!!  Don’t you?  😛

Project Details:

  • Pattern: Chunky Double Button Tab Hat
  • Yarn: LionBrand WoolEase Thick n Quick
  • Colour: Butterscotch
  • Yardage: 108 yds.  (I didn’t use the entire skein for this project)

Now I want to make another hat!!!!  I wonder if this is how I’ll feel after my first pair of socks?

1.20.2012: Update

After being MIA for so long, with the first F.O of the year, I’m re-joining Tami and the other ladies in the F.O. Friday meme.  It’s a fun way to showcase what you’re working on and what you’ve finished with encouragement from other crafty souls.
