Dear Craft Diary,
Today, I’m giving myself and my stash — the side-eye — kinda like this one,
Why?
I have a very HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE stash as a newbie knitter. But you trying to tell me, after all that money spent and with all that yarn, I only have but 8 skeins of bulky yarn and those puppies are from LionBrand?!!!!! Are you kidding me? At least they’re not RH, (although I have some of that too). 😳 It’s not that I have anything against LionBrand or RH, but patterns like the one I want to knit need real yarn … not plastic acrylic. 😳
All my early days of “ooooh, yarn pretty” glazed over, robotic purchase actions have now come to bite me in the proverbial *ss — well, you know … I shouldn’t have to spell it out. My yarn and pattern tastes are evolving, now I’m not sure what to do with all that plastic acrylic.
Why, you ask, am I so …. Homer Simon-esque? You really want to know?
For your information, I’m like this because I want to make this cowl AND this year I’m stash-diving for all my projects. That means that as much as I want to purchase bulky yarn … errr … that’ll be a negative!
Why do I have to make this particular cowl? Why you so nosy Craft Diary? Why you all up in my business? If you must know, my online crafty pal Lauren made one and hers is so pretty, I want to make one too. Are you happy now Ms. Nosy?
You know what Craft Diary … you’re not really giving me any solutions, so I guess I’m going to have to stash drive again. I can’t fail with the stash-diving a mere 19 days into 2012. Plus this year’s a leap year so that’ll what … like a 5.19% “no yarn buying” success rate? Errr …no!!!!! I should at least get to 6%. 😛
So … I’m looking for a robust yarn, with great stitch definition. I know now I’ll have to use worsted instead of bulky, in a colour I like. M’kay. I know, I know … kinda sounds like I’m asking for wine, but I’m not, so MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!! Before I have to drink some wine!!!!
I didn’t think it would be this hard!!!!!!
If you’re good for anything, other than letting me vent, please for the love of all things knitterly, let me come up with a winner! Hmppphhh …
Yours pissedoffedly,
Dnali.
The Stash…you gotta try to laugh cause it can make you cry. I have been practicing crochet with my acrylics. Hope the stash diving is successful!
I believe you. I really didn’t think it would’ve been so bad. So much acrylic, I can cry but …. I found crochet, so I’m hopeful for the best. 😀
I’ve been successful for the Dolores Park project. It’s halfway done as I type tonight.
Last year I used acrylic yarn to learn how to crochet granny squares. And this year it will be the ripple blanket, though I do need to buy yarn for that am thinking of something with wool in it! Must buy yarn soon!
I’m learning to crochet, so you’ve given me a great option for using them. I’m running away like Forrest Gump from my “must buy yarn soon” inner voice. 😀
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I also have a sackload of acrylic I don’t want to use and I also have made myself a promise to use it up before I buy better stuff. I can totally see why you want to make that cowl, it’s lovely.
I’m going to tough it out. I really am. Some of the acrylic stash came to me as gifts; some I bought because I liked the colours. I have to find something to do with it — I know there are projects that I can use them for. I just have to find them.
Thanks for dropping by. 🙂
your blog is awesome, really funny read. I can understand the whole newbie knitter thing – I have fallen in love with so much yarn and it’s STILL sitting in the drawer, untouched. That cowl is really pretty, maybe you can do a trade up or something………
Thank you Vicki. I write how I feel at the time … sometimes real life is just that funny. 😀
Unless I find someone to trade with I’m going to have to find something from my stash. As at the time I’m responding to your comment, I think I have. I just need to swatch it. 🙂
I was contemplating going to Vogue Knitting Live this year, but I ended up not going
because I made other plans and frankly I still have enough yarn left to last me until the next Rhinebeck fair. So I’ve decided to save the funds and think about going back to that one. If not for more yarn, then at least for some more sexy glass needles, LOL
LOLOLOL at the sexy needle comment. Have you used them yet?
I agree. I didn’t go to Vogue Knitting this year either but even if I did, I didn’t have plans to purchase anything. I’m thinking Maryland Wool and Sheep festival or Rhinebeck as well. My goal is really to use up as much of the yarn I have already before I purchase more.
Oh! Can you double up any of the yarns you already have? Sorry for offering the temptation!
I tried doubling *insert dramatic cry and falling to the ground*, but I don’t like the stitch definition with doubling, so I’m “diving” and swatching, until I come up with a winner. *sniff, sniff*
Between the food and your knit projects, I’m dubbing you “Temptress”. 😀
Ha ha! Fortunately I’m tempting you with things that are pretty good additions to life!
Agreed!!! 😀
