I’m thinking of taking the handmade challenge for Christmas 2011. I’m also thinking I probably should have started already since I’m a slow knitter … ah well … what’s done is done; July 1st is already gone. 😉
I’m testing the pattern below as gifts for my cousin and her brother’s wife. I’m still not sure about it, but as with almost anything else, I’m gamed to try at least once. 😀
My plan is to do the knit in a less weighty yarn than bulky/chunky. I’m going to start testing tomorrow (I mean today since I’m up at 12:37 am 😀) and will post results in a couple of days; the pattern seems easy enough to be able to do that although I’m a slow knitter.

Re the pattern, you and I are —><— with why I'm testing it on less bulky yarn. I think bulky might be too thick to wrap around 55 inches (the suggested length of the scarf).
Re the handmade challenge to myself, I'm still debating if I should or not. What you've said is exactly the case with some of my potential giftees; they're not appreciative of the effort or skill and would have no problem telling me that. Other than making me sad, I'd be mad as a hornet if I spend the next 5.5 months doing these projects and they hate them. Maybe I'll just whittle my list down to those who would really get it.
Glad the Rumi quote helped you today. After a rough work week last week, the rebirth of this blog and that quote were what I needed to help get me out of that funk. Hope this week is wonderful for you.
That looks like a fun pattern. I think you’re right about trying it in a less bulky yarn — the one in the pattern photo looks warm but a little too thick to be comfortable.
I’m going to make a few handmade gifts this year but not all… too many family members don’t quite “get” the whole handmade thing and I’d rather give them a gift card than make something they won’t use.
Your blog looks great. I like the banner photo a lot and I had to copy the Rumi quote off your about me page — that’s just exactly what I needed to hear today.
