WIP KAL/CAL

Andi KAL CAL

Andi, my online buddy, at My Sister’s Knitter had the most brilliant idea for a KAL (Knit-A-Long) and CAL (Crochet-A-Long).  She encouraged herself and the rest of us to get all our UFOs, then decide if we’re going to finish them or frog them.  If we’re going to finish them, we can do it together — from July 20th – Sept 30th.  We don’t have to be working on the same projects; the idea is just to get together and see how many projects we can each finish.  It doesn’t hurt that there are prizes!  😛   Since my stash is threatening to bury me, my motivation is to actually get stuff done and socialize.

She’s started a Ravelry group here and we’d love to have you join us.  The more the merrier!  Being the lazy bum that I am, (what?!!!  #don’t judgeme)  LOLOL … don’t be surprised if you see my projects shared between my Craft Book Challenge, Summer Sizzle Dash list and Andi’s My Sister’s Knitter KAL / CAL.  😛

I didn’t realise I had so many projects in the unfinished state.  Good God in heaven!  Some I’ve started, some I’ve swatched, some are just there — looking sad.  Callin’ mah name!!!  Begging me to finish them!  😀

I know I wouldn’t finish everything but here’s a list of some of my UFOs (some you’ve seen already):

  1. Shabby I-phone Case
  2. Crochet Bag — from Lucy at Attic24
  3. Tuva Hat   Completed 8.11.2013
  4. My first pair of socks
  5. Blackberry Salad Blanket
  6. Drips (hat)
  7. Random Cotton Dish-cloths
  8. Bandana Cowl
  9. 22.5 degrees Shawl
  10. Zuni Shawl
  11. Common Ground Cardigan — I know I’m not going to finish this, it’s just too hot right now but I wanted to still put it on the list.
  12. Honey Cowl — a gift for my co worker.
  13. Giant, Giant, Granny Square Blanket.  It’s ridiculous.  This is for my god-son; I started this before hie was born — he’s one now!  🙄
  14. High Plains Drifter — this is my Rhinebeck 2013 project
  15. Pulina
  16. Brain-Made Shawlette

Key:

  • Pink: Items I think I can finish
  • Green: Items that I’ll work on when the ones in pink are done.

Yep … 16 of them puppies.  And I have more.  🙄  I have to go to rehab.  My startitis/wipitis disease is taking over my work basket.

IMG_2805I need to finish projects as much as I start them.  I like KALs/CALs but sometimes being pressed for time, I don’t get to participate as much as want to.  I especially love this one from Andi, since it allows me to work on what I’ve already started and not the same pattern(s) as everyone else.  I have to really make an effort to find time to do something creative every day.  That was one of my new year’s goals and it’s one that I haven’t met fully so far this year.  But I’m going to try my best with this KAL / CAL — even if all I do is knit or crochet one row per day.

I guess when I get up tomorrow it’ll be “get ready, set, GO!!!” 😀

Stash Dash: Summer Sizzle!!!!

My Rav group — Stash Knit Down — is having a summer stash dash.   You know, that thing where you’re given clues and a set time-frame then you work on projects from your stash / queue that “kinda sorta fit the bill but doesn’t have to be like everyone else’s kinda thing”.   Now say that fast three times!!!  LOLOL!

You know us yarnies are nuts!  LOLOL!  The weather’s turning to sweltering and we’re thinking about what projects we can do.   Nuts I tell ya!!!!  I’ve never participated in one — sometimes RealLife gets in my way — but I love the theme of this one and the project guidelines.   So from  July 5th (s’posed to be July 1st, but I’m still cleaning up post apt renovation) – August 31st, I’m going to be working on these stash dash projects.  The goal is to see how many projects you can complete, from your stash, but most importantly — to have FUN!!!

  • Ice pop: complete your oldest WIP or use your oldest yarn

My oldest WIP is Granny Stacks Et Al

All I need to do is join the squares and make a sc back.

  • Fresh strawberries: make something red: A phone cosy with some red cotton.
  • Fireworks: make something with beads or sparkles: Never did beading before, this would be a great time to try.
  • Weeding: give away or donate one item (does not need to be knitting related): DONE: Gave clothes, shoes, accessories and knick nacks to Goodwill today.
  • Beach: make a bag or something else you might carry to the beach: Water bottle cozy
  • Sunburn: make a hat: Tuva
  • Walking barefoot in the grass: make a pair of socks or slippers : First pair of socks in progress.
  • Summer vacation: make something for a baby or a child: Blackberry Salad Blanket
  • Swimming: make something blue or green: Summer vacation project is a variation of blues. 😛
  • Summer reading: read 1 book: The Scarlet Letter — Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • Lemonade: make something yellow: I have to think about this one.
  • Allergies: make something that ISN’T made of wool: if this project doesn’t have to be knit related, I’ll make some soap or bath bombs. If yarn related, I’ll have to think about this
  • Bonfires: make something out of the warmest yarn you have: I’ll have to think about a project for this yarn, it’s 100% Peruvian wool.   IMG_1612
  • Vacation: arrange a day or a weekend all to yourself: July 19 – 21 or August 16 – 18

I love the fact that this stash-down allows me to incorporate projects I’ve already started.  Wooohooo!  Now that I’m coming out of the renovation fog, I’m chomping at the bit to finish the clean-up and get cracking on these.

What crafty plans do you have for the summer?  😀
