I know some of my friends who are stalking me online today must be asking — what’s she doing online this time of day? Shouldn’t she be at work? Welp, today I’m at home. At home finally being able to relax after medical tests and the like yesterday, plus follow-up and appointment setting today.
See what had happened was — around this time six years ago, I was getting prepped for surgery (taking place in Sept 05) to get rid of thyroid cancer. Every year after that, part of my life became a series of medication, purging from radiation, sonograms, checkups, blood tests, fine point needle biopsies and full-body scans. Six years later (thank God Almighty) I’m still here. But every year, I go through testing to make sure I don’t have a recurrence or occurrence in any new areas of my body. Yesterday began what I like to call “Part 1” of the testing etc; today’s for making follow-up appointments and arrangements for my sonogram and recuperating from the copious amounts of blood drawn yesterday. But all that is not the point of this post. No ma’am.
This post is a happy post because despite the difficulties that cancer brings and leaves in a person’s life, I’m in a good place right now. Getting here was hard fought so it’s going to be well celebrated. And a helluva celebration it is today!!!!!!! 😀 With nothing better than YARN!!!!!!!!!!! — insert me running around my house screaming and going on like this
Earlier this week, my knitting bug started to come back and I was inspired to test my fortitude and look for a semi long term piece that was more challenging and bigger than any I’d previously tackled. I found it and decided to jump in without a life jacket before I chickened out and went back to knitting yet another scarf. 🙄 I didn’t have enough yarn for the project so that meant — say it with me — YARN SHOPPING!!!!! Oh the glorious delight!!!!! 😀
After ordering from WEBS on Sunday past, I got busy for my week and totally forgot to check the status of the order. Surprise, surprise I got today when my door-bell rang and a very pleasant postal worker asked me my name. YESSSSSSS!!!!!!
I opened my package to find my scrumptious yarn … more beautiful in person than on the website. Yarnophites (yes my own made up word) — take a gander!!!!! 😀
I got 12 skeins of Nashua Creative Focus Super-wash in Pumpkin (the project needs 11); 4 skeins of Cascade Nikki (my short name 😛 ) in Fruit Salad & 4 skeins of Noro Retro in Hot Pink.
Now I get it. Some of my non yarny friends don’t get how I could be typically so logical and stoic but melt and become all high pitched and squealy over yarn. They don’t get it!!!! But that’s okay … I love you guys anyway. 😛 But … before any of you call me, come to my house or text me that I have too many skeins of yarn …. see my response below 😛 Just change the word “you” to “yarn”. 😀
beautiful yarn. Its wonderful that you are so positive.Way to go and congrats 🙂
Thank you Pearlin. It took me a while to get positive. It was rough, but I’m accepting what is and looking forward to the good that can be. I still have my moments, but they are getting a little further apart. 😀
There’s nothing better than starting your day with yarn in the mail!!
Say that again Lady!!!!!!! Starting the day off with yarn is Barney Stinson kind of AWESOME!!!!!! 😀
Amazing yarns!! Congratulations for getting this far with a smile on your face 🙂
Thank you so much Nicola. There have been some tears, tantrums, cussing, withdrawal and the like in between, but I’m blessed and that’s definitely worth smiling about. 😀
Ooh great yarn! Sounds like an absolutely fantastic celebration for where you are today:) Can’t wait to see what it all becomes!
It absolutely is a fantastic celebration.
The Nashua already has a project but the others, I’m going to let them tell me what they want to become. 😀
I like the fruit salad colourway, very pretty 🙂
I think so too. It’s even prettier in person. I can’t wait to find a project for it. 😀
