Rosemary Oil

My creative itch is begining to scratch again so I decided to cool it a bit by making some rosemary oil for my hair.  When I’d just gone natural (aka stopped perming my hair), rosemary oil came up a lot in conversations regarding natural hair care.

Rosemary has long been touted to have medicinal properties.  Organicfact.net outlines the following uses for rosemary when used for haircare:

Hair Care: Rosemary oil and rosemary teas are used extensively for hair care in shampoos and lotions. Regular use of rosemary oil helps in stimulating follicles, as a result of which, hair grow longer and stronger. It is also believed that rosemary oil slows down premature hair loss and graying of hair. Hence it is an excellent tonic for bald people. Rosemary essential oil is also beneficial for dry and flaky scalps. Regular massage of scalp with rosemary oil nourishes the scalp and removes dandruff. Further, it is often mixed with tea tree oil and basil oil to treat scalp problems.

So last weekend, I made some rosemary oil using the basic recipe I’d used in the past.

Recipe:

  • One sprig of rosemary plant
  • 3/4 cup of carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond oil)
  • one amber coloured bottle

Rinse the amber coloured bottle thoroughly.  Pour the carrier oil (of your choice) into the bottle.  Shave the leaves off the rosemary sprig and place all the leaves in the bottle of oil.  Store bottle in a dark corner for three weeks before use.

After it ferments, I’m going to use the rosemary oil to help combat my dry flaky scalp by using it as part of the concoction for my daily spritz and as my monthly hot oil treatment.

Updates about the results at the end of July.

Fashion Bite …

This weekend was to be the one when I went:

  • Fabric Shopping
  • baked a buckwheat bread and
  • mixed my first batch of whipped shea butter.

A totally creative weekend, gone up in smoke with a visit from none other than Mother Nature.  With the lethargy that accompanies her, I could barely find the energy to clean my house much more do the above.

However, while idling on the innanet, waiting impatiently to fight to the end for my Ebay item of choice, I found this photo on the http://www.frugal-fashionistas.com/ of Molly Sims in LA.

When “MN” comes to visit, I don’t like to wear anything that restrictive in the waist/stomach area so Molly Sims’ outfit gave me the inspiration I needed for putting together a work outfit for tomorrow.  Instead of red, white and denim, my combo is going to be skirt — brown, green, turquoise, white tank and freshly washed denim jacket.   Accessories would be a white wedge sandals and my vintage-inspired sunglasses.

Putting the outfit together is minimally creative … but it’s something until I get rid of this dratted “guest” … 🙄
