Goodbye, Not Farewell …

Jan 2011 was the first time I picked up a crochet hook and not too long after that I found Wink’s blog — A Creative Being.  It’s been on my weekly reading list ever since.  I enjoyed her blog so much, I featured her in my Bloggie Awards post.  So to learn yesterday of her passing (by suicide) shook me to the core.   Her blog has provided inspiration immeasurable and I’m still so very shocked.  And saddened.  😦    I can’t begin to imagine what her loved ones must be going through right now.

Depression is a demon that I can’t claim to understand.  Sure we all get down from time to time and some instances might be more acute but to suffer from something so unexplainable and debilitating to the point where taking one’s life seems the only way to make it stop is not something I can claim to know.

I don’t know how many people read this blog without commenting, so I’ll say, if you’re feeling depressed or suicidal, call your local suicide hotline, or 911 (NYers  your numbers are here) or the National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255. If you click the link, it’ll take you to the NSP website which has other resources.   There are also local charities geared and prepared to assist … even if it is just to help you through that moment.  I don’t know that level of despair, so I can’t claim to understand what you’re going through, but I can encourage you to get help.

Wink is gone, but her work is still here to continue to inspire us as artists and creatives.  May she rest in peace.

Here’s to you Wink … Queen of Crochet Mandalas, ever colorful, ever inspiring, always armed with a crochet hook.  ❤

😳  It’s always humbling to find out that there are people out there (other than my friends and relatives) who actually read my blog.  There are many blogs I love, I just don’t ever think that people feel the same way about mine.   I know … it’s kinda nuts but that’s how I feel.  So it’s always with deep gratitude that I accept blog awards.  I found out that Hannah gifted me with two and Ashley with one.  To both of you and all my other readers, thank you so much.  What you all have done is once again made me re-define community and also challenge myself to really up my fibre arts game!  Now I really can’t be a slacker!  LOLOL!  😀

It’s really wonderful to be a part of such a wonderful group of crafters.
