I’m just going to let the pictures do the talking:
Cotton yarn used to make my number 8 ties before putting the yarn in a vinegar soak.
Tied up and waiting for the vinegar soak
Yarn spaghetti!
3:1 water to vinegar ratio
Post vinegar soak. Waiting for the dye-bath.
Paas Easter egg dye. I used only one pellet — the purple one. Of course … 😀
I had a major score with these at the supermarket. Got a ton of boxes at .50 cents each!!!
Purple or navy blue? Not so sure now but I’m about to add something else …
1/3 Special K protein powder mix. Doesn’t the mixture look like the top of my Clorox wipes can?
In the dye-bath.
Drying on my balcony …. aka the fire-escape. 😛
Spring Dream.
Dried and ready to be caked.
The colour is more saturated in some areas than others but the overall colour on the skein is definitely consistent. I’ll be messing around with some more food dyes then on to the big leagues — acid dyes. Dyeing will definitely in my near future; I can see myself becoming addicted to this.
Potential project: Slouched Tuva Hat by Turvid
Yarn used: KP Bare Worsted
Craft book used: Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece by Gail Callahan (I can’t say enough about this book. A review to follow). Added to library in 2012.
Hope you are having a lovely creative weekend — no matter what your craft/medium is!!!
